- Evaluate the minimum V die required by multiplying the thinnest metal by 8. In this case, 0.030 inches. The material will require the smallest die, so: 0.030 x 8 = 0.24, which we’ll round up to 0.25.
- Evaluate the required maximum V die by multiplying the thickest metal by 8. In this case, the thickest material 0.250 inches would require the largest die: 0.250 x 8 = 2.
You have now determined the minimum and maximum die 0.25 and 2 inches required. To fill whatever you want in between, start with the smallest V die and double its size. In this case you get 0.5″ of force. i.e. (0.25 x 2 = 0.5). Next, double the 0.5 inches. The mold gets 1.0 inches, then doubles to get 2.0 inches.
